RESPONSES REGARDING OUR PUD APPLICATION

August 28, 2017

Oakdale Community,

In October of 2016, Oakdale Baptist Church (OBC) submitted an application to the Oklahoma City Planning Commission for a new Planned Unit Development (PUD-1626) for our property at 6400 East Hefner Road where we have plans to build a new church facility.  Concerns were raised within the community about some of the proposed changes, so after many meetings, discussions and several Planning Commission hearings, OBC asked for and received an indefinite continuance on March 9, 2017.

Because our relationship with the community is so important to us as a church, we felt we needed to take a step back and allow some time to consider another option that would allow us to move forward with our building project while being considerate of our neighbors' concerns.  Many of those within the community who objected to the new PUD shared their desire that we follow the original PUD (PUD-690) approved in 1999. We spent the spring and summer seeking God’s direction and working on a plan that would allow us to build the project in accordance with the original PUD (PUD-690).

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” This is what we have been doing since March. Now, after months of hard work and preparation, we are excited to share with you that we are planning to proceed with our building project under the original PUD (PUD-690).  This will remove the necessity to rezone the property to a new PUD in order for the project to proceed.  We plan to notify the Oklahoma City Planning Commission of our desire to withdraw the application of PUD-1626 later today.

Our hope is that moving forward with the project within the requirements of the original PUD (PUD-690) will resolve many of the concerns that have been expressed.  The new design was shared with our church last night in a Business Meeting and was met with much excitement. With this decision made, we plan as a church to refocus and renew our efforts to serve the community we love.

Sincerely,
Justin Ford
Pastor, OBC
